John Douglas is best known to the general public for his groundbreaking work in criminal profiling. While an FBI agent, he served as a SWAT Team sniper and later as a hostage negotiator. In 1977 he transferred to the Behavioral Sciences Unit, where he taught hostage negotiation and criminal psychology at the FBI academy.
